There are few brands attempting to be as innovative as Fuelab — they’ve been pushing the envelope since they began crafting high-quality automotive fuel components a decade ago. We caught up with them at the 2018 PRI Show, and were eager to see what they had in the tank for the coming year – pun intended.
We spoke with Fuelab’s Brian Paitz, gave us the rundown on their popular Surge Tanks. While many manufacturers take a tried and sometimes true approach of battling fuel starvation with baffling, Fuelab came at it from another angle. Brian said, “essentially, the surge tank itself is the baffling. There is nothing inside – it’s a smaller unit that is fed from the main fuel tank or cell. It is designed to be kept full at all times, so if you do have a side-to-side motion from G-force, you won’t run out of fuel like you would with a conventional tank, which may or may not have baffling in it.”
When we asked Brian how complicated the plumbing was for their new surge tanks, he explained how simple it is. “The car’s fuel cell or tank feeds the surge tank which has a pump inside of it. From there, the surge tank is plumbed to the engine and a return line is fed back into the surge tank, which keeps it constantly full.”
This is just one of the many innovative products Fuelab has been cooking up. You can check out all their new gear on the Fuelab website, here. Stay tuned for more updates from the 2018 PRI Show.
