The Edelbrock Performance Group, which includes the many brands under the COMP Cams umbrella, brings a wealth of new products to the PRI Show each year, and we made it a point to get by and check out some of the latest and greatest for the racing and performance markets. Among those items was an all-new Big Mouth 102mm drive-by-wire electronic throttle body from FAST. 

“We developed an electronic LS-style a couple of years ago, and we just never got it to where we were happy with it, to where we would release it. So we kept working on it, and now we’re coming to market,” says Edelbrock’s Trent Goodwin.

The Big Mouth is compatible with most stock Gen IV LS ECU’s, including the L76, L77, L99, LS3, and LS7. FAST engineered upgraded components, equipping it with a high-torque electric motor for quicker response. Beyond throttle response, though, one of the checklist items that FAST chose to invest more time in was alleviating any issues with the throttle blades closing under force.

“One thing we found with some other throttle bodies on the market, with boosted applications, turbos or superchargers, was that the electric motor in the throttle body will not have enough torque to keep the throttle blade cracked, and it will actually shut,” Goodwin explains. “So we went in, reinforced everything, upgraded all the internal components on the board and the gears to where it doesn’t matter how much boost you run it at, it will still work properly.”

Beyond the electric motor and the the robust blade design, FAST equipped it with dual return springs, and a non-contact TPS to provide greater reliability.

‘This product is a great asset, because it’s economical…it’s not a $1,200 billet throttle body. It’s all our hardware, all proprietary, and it will work with any EFI system. It’s nice, clean, simple, universal, and you can mount it any way you want,” Goodwin adds.

The Big Mouth is also compatible with the Edelbrock Pro-Flo 4+ or any aftermarket EFI system designed to control an LS-style electronic throttle body.
