SEMA 2017: Lokar Founder Skip And Debbie Walls’ 1940 Ford “Lucille”

Lokar founder Skip Walls is the ultimate eternal hot rodder that cherishes the art of taking things apart and putting them back together with his own personality. Improvements and upgrades are the stuff that makes legends in the hot rod world, and the thing that drives Skip to make cars better. We found one of Skip’s builds in the Lokar booth at this year’s SEMA trade show. This one is special to Skip and his wife Debbie. This one is Debbie’s car… her favorite car.

In the early ’90s pretty close to the same time that Skip and Debbie moved across the country from California to Tennessee, he traded a ’34 Ford Roadster for a turquoise ’40 Ford Convertible complete with pink flames and vinyl interior. The car was fitted with with factory bumpers and factory top. It was nice, but with everything else, Skip could make it better.

In the mid-’90’s Skip started to take the car apart on a bet to prove that he could put an independent front end on the car in two weeks. Two weeks and it did get done, but one thing led to another and the next you know … Debbie’s favorite car to drive was torn apart. Now it’s almost 25 years later and Debbie’s ’40 Ford has been through many shops to get put back together.

The past two years saw the Goolsby Customs’ team finish the car with the upholstery work by M and M Hot Rod Interiors as well as some of the most incredible machine work done by Kevin Ford (Debbie’s oldest son) and the gang at Lokar. Finishing touches by Steve Tracy at Advanced Plating helped bring this car to completion after such a long wait. Debbie debuted the car at the SEMA Show, with the righteous hot rod name “Lucille.”
