Meguiar’s is a well known name when it comes to the automotive detailing world, for both professionals and at the enthusiast level. As Meguiar’s is continually adding products to their line, we sat down and discussed three new great products to help you care for your cars.

Michael Penningtion is very passionate about car care, and was happy to explain a few products to us. The first product is for headlight restoration, and was designed to simplify the process, compared to the typical kits that require sanding and buffing.

Michael explained, “Perfect Clairty headlight restoration kit is a two-step process. You work two separate cleaning pads – done by hand or with a DA (dual action) system, and a specialized compound to remove the bad layer. Then using the aerosol product, simply mask off the area and lay a few towels down, spray two thin coats, and your headlights will look brand new again. The aerosol includes a UV protectant that an outside lab tested to confirm that after 12 months of UV exposure, the restored lights showed no yellowing or discoloration.”

Next, Michael told us about a product called Paint Protect, “Paint Protect is all about protection. While we do cater to the car care enthusiasts, and love that side of it, there is a portion of the car hobby that is new to car care and just wants to protect their car. The new product is a sealant of sorts, that withstands 52 car washes, meaning it will last a full year with a car wash each week. Applying the product more frequently is great too as frequent car care is easy car care.”

Michael said, “The last new item, is a polishing tool. While professionals often use rotary tools, it’s not the best tool for the enthusiasts due to its propensity to cause paint damage, like swirls and burn through. Because the polisher both oscillates and rotates, it makes it safe for paint finishes. The new tool is more durable, smoother, and has digital torque management to keep the speed consistent.”

“This new DA polisher has a one piece billet design on the counter weight, and we’ve added multiple bearings for support. We also have new foam pads to go along with it, and while it is perfectly suited for professional detailers, it is available to the enthusiast.”

To  demonstrate how effective yet safe the new polisher is, the Meguiar’s team sanded an entire Mercedes SLS with 3000 grit sandpaper, and during SEMA week, used foam pads to polish it back to a finish better then that of the factory.
