When we walked down the aisles and came upon the booth occupied by Energy Suspension, their trademark red bushings were filling displays and walls. We’ve all come to know that when a sway bar or control arm has red bushings or grommets that the car owner is serious about suspension performance.
New for this year and at their booth is the just released suspension kit for the 2011-13 Ford Mustang, including a complete set of front and rear control arm bushings and sway bar bushings and grommets. They also showed us their line of bushings for the 2003-08 Dodge trucks, as well.
One thing that was unique to the Mustang kit is their attention to detail in the dual-density upper control arm mount bushings that help keep things firm when the car is making the transition from acceleration to braking.
A couple of things that Jeff Marks, Account Manager at Energy Suspension wanted to elaborate on is their attention to detail and to constantly improve their products to be more serviceable, and to give us some guidelines to replacing bushings, and how to install Energy Suspension components.
Their sway bar bushings have spur channels to help maintain the synthetic grease that they supply you with in a sway bar bushing kit. We asked about using heat to remove factory bushings in control arms, and he said, “You’ll find out that heat is going to be your best friend when you need to remove the factory bushings. It will smell, and it will make a mess, but the rubber bushings are vulcanized to the metal parts and there really isn’t a better way to remove them.”
While there are many suggestions available depending on who you talk to, Marks highly recommends that you use the grease and even though it might make a mess it will help to lubricate the bushings. Energy Suspension has been around for over 25 years and has become very well known for their many applications and various kits for the restomod or the full on restoration.
Not interested in red bushings on your restoration, but still seeking an improvement to your suspension? No problem, they can provide you with black urethane bushings that fit as well as factory bushings, but perform far better.
