At this year’s SEMA show, Exedy was showing off a new variation of their Hyper-Single clutch. According to Exedy’s Evan Cline, “The Hyper Single has been the go to clutch for a lot of road racers in the Grand Am and American Iron series, running the Ford 4.6 platform.”
This new version features a 23-spline six-puck clutch disc and is aimed at the 5.0 Coyote market running the six-speed Getrag transmission. “This clutch was the natural progression of the hyper-single,” says Cline. He also says that previous versions of the Hyper Single have been installed in championship winning road racers.
The 5.0 version of the Hyper Single features all the same benefits of the 4.6 version. This includes a whopping 3,500 pounds clamping load, one-piece forged chromoly flywheel. Another cool feature is the Forged aluminum cover assembly which according to Cline, offers zero deflection, giving consistent pedal feel throughout the life of the clutch, and under nearly every temperature condition. Other key features of the Hyper Single include:
- 23-spline disc for Getrag equipped Coyote engines
- Single-disc
- Six-puck sprung hub semi-metallic clutch disc
- High burst ductile-iron casting pressure plate
- Based around Hyper Single
- Natural progression of the hyper single
- Mid 400s wheel torque handling capacity
