The Scoggin Dickey Parts Center Raceshop has been churning out plenty of LSX-based horsepower for years, but now it’s jumping into the Mopar game with a new Hellcrate engine. This new mill is packed with fresh ideas from the SDPC Raceshop and takes the GEN-III HEMI platform to a new level.
The team at SDPC Raceshop approached the 6.2-liter Hellcrate engine project with the same hands-on method as they have with LS engines. This means they hit the ground running and started looking at ways to improve the engine anyway they could.
With a total performance improvement mindset, the SDPC Raceshop left no stone unturned in the development process for the Hellcrate engine. A Jokerz Performance CNC-ported snout and set of blower spacers were added along with a ZPE 2.75-inch upper pulley to add some horsepower. To handle the additional power, the engine comes with an ATI 10-percent-overdrive Super Damper and double-pin hub kit. Bringing oxygen into the blower is a 105mm throttle body that has fuel added via a set of ID1050X Injector Dynamics fuel injectors.
The final touch on the Hellcrate engine is a set of black billet-aluminum valve covers and catch can from the SDPC Raceshop. According to Chance McLaren from SDPC, these additional parts are more than just pretty black anodized jewelry.
“We wanted to create a nice set of valve covers and catch can that were more than just good looking, they needed to be very functional for the application. The valve covers were developed with the large AN fittings to work with the catch can to keep the oil out of the intake and supercharger. This is important when you’re trying to add boost like we wanted to.”
