SEMA 2021: Boost District Introduces C8 Supercharger System

The SEMA show is an excellent indicator of what trends and vehicles are going to be popular. And this year at Las Vegas Convention Center, we saw a ton of Ford Broncos, trucks, Jeeps, hot rods, and classics. We also noticed a lot of C8 Corvettes. Several companies had new products for Chevrolet’s mid-engine supercar that included wheels, wide-body kits, electronics, and more. Even though the industry has yet to find a way to tune the encrypted ECU in the new Corvette, power-adders are still making their way onto these cars.

At the show, we connected with Boost District. The California-based company focuses on custom superchargers and turbochargers for GM vehicles. So naturally, it was only a matter of time before they decided to build a system for the C8, which fortunately for us was on display at the Magnaflow booth at SEMA. Roshan (GTO) Poptani, President of Boosted District, was there and gave us a first-hand look at the company’s C8 shop car, which they claim is the world’s first positive displacement (PD) supercharged Corvette. Roshan said, “We built the entire supercharger system for the C8, and the only thing that is off the shelf is the LT5 lid that we used for prototyping and the Eaton TVS R2650 rotor pack. Currently, we are building a billet lid for convertibles or for the coupe owners that want a custom lid.” And if it’s customizability you want, the company aims to please with a powder coating of the customers choice and one-off engraving. 

Boost District will soon offer a billet lid with custom engraving and powdercoating. However, customers can also select the Chevrolet LT5 lid for an OEM look.

Fitting a supercharger on the LT2 may sound like a simple task, but that was not the case. Roshan and his team worked on the system, custom accessory bracket, and jackshaft for months before they were happy with the product. They also decided on a cog drive versus a regular ribbed belt. The advantage here is the belt will never slip, and you get the aggressive whine of superchargers back in the day. They also put the heat exchanger behind the air duct on the driver’s side, which helped retain the car’s OEM appearance. ⁣

Boost District will be offering its supercharger package in three versions, Stage 1, 2, and 3; while all three stages will include the same supercharger package, the electronics and boost levels will differ. For example, Stage 1 will be set up for 6- to 7-pounds of boost and utilize a spark and MAP controller capable of 650-700 horsepower at the wheels on pump fuel. 

An optional FuelTech FT600 is shown in this picture mounted off the center console which works flawlessly with the C8 factory ECU. This device allows customers to add a second set of fuel injectors for additional fueling with the OEM direct injection.

For the Stage 2 and 3 kits, Roshan teamed up with FuelTech USA. He said, “We’ve been working side by side with Anderson Dick at Fueltech USA to give a plug-and-play ECU control with port injection.” So naturally, Stage 2 will offer a FuelTech FT550 or FT600 piggyback controller, secondary injectors, and pulley combination to support 9- to 10-pounds of boost for even more power. Finally, for those that can’t get enough, Stage 3 will be the ultimate choice. This system is designed for those running forged pistons with an upgraded clutch. According to Roshan, you can expect boost levels to be in the mid-teens with this particular package which will also be run by a FuelTech piggyback system.

Apart from the billet lower manifold, the Boost District supercharger looks like a factory setup.

  • Utilizing TVS2650 rotor pack to ensure no added maintenance with OEM reliability⁣
  • Intercooled manifold to keep temperatures stable⁣
  • CNC machined housing that provides efficient airflow throughout the system⁣
  • Provisions for port injection⁣
  • Bolt-on heat exchangers with fans
  • Quick-release pulley hub⁣
  • Allows for different throttle body configurations⁣
  • Zero frame modifications

According to Boost District, it was the first company to have a fully functional positive displacement (PD) supercharger. Its system uses Eaton’s TVS 2650 rotor pack giving the LT2 650-700 horsepower at the wheels with only six to seven pounds of boost.

The Boost District supercharged C8 makes 700 horsepower at the wheels with only 7-pounds of boost on 91 octane. Although, after the show, Roshan told us they intended to make a pulley swap, upping the boost and switching the fuel over to e85 for more power. When asked how the Corvette drives, Roshan said, “This setup responds just like a stock C8 until you put your foot in it, and then it comes to life as it makes peak torque at 2,300 RPM.” Currently, Roshan is working on pricing for the C8 supercharger system and plans to resolve it before the end of the year.
