SEMA 2024: “INVADR” Is A Sinister Buick Grand National

The Buick Grand National looks like the kind of car that Darth Vader would drive. Well, the Ringbrothers took that concept to heart when they created “INVADR”, a truly sinister 1987 Buick Grand National. This car looks intimidating and it’s packing a 1,246 horsepower V6 that can back those looks up.

A Roadster Shop chassis that features a four-link rear suspension and Penske shocks sets the tone and stance for INVADR. Like Darth Vader, INVADR’s original body has been augmented with numerous custom parts. The original front and rear bumpers have been replaced with stainless steel units that are highlighted by machined aluminum bumper guards. To make the new bumpers look at home, the angle of the font fenders was adjusted, and the rocker panels were extended to match.

“This car is all about presence. The bodywork is subtle at a glance, but the ferocity of what’s under the hood begins to materialize on second viewing. And then you drive it,” said Ringbrothers co-owner Mike Ring. “The acceleration of this car is nothing short of violent. This may well be the fastest car we’ve built to date.”

Duttweiler Performance took your standard 3.8-liter V6 and transformed it into a monster that can generate up to 2,000 horsepower when it’s turned up. A pair of 62mm Precision turbo force all the boost into the aluminum mill. A Bowler TREMEC T-56 Magnum six-speed transmission works with a carbon fiber drive shaft to send all the horsepower to the rear tires.

The interior of INVADR is very detailed and looks period-correct for a 1987 Grand National. Upholstery Unlimited fabricated custom seats, a new dashboard, and a fresh center console. Inside the dash, you’ll find a full set of Dakota Digital gauges. A Ringbrothers carbon fiber steering wheel rounds out the driver’s compartment.

“INVADR is one of those cars we’ll remember building for a long time,” added Ringbrothers co-owner Jim Ring. “It’s a combination of state-of-the-art fabrication and imagination plus the Grand National’s DNA, culminating in an incredible final product. None of this would have been possible without our partners Gentex, HRE Wheels, BASF, Dynamat and more. We are grateful for their continued collaboration with our team.”

It’s hard to make a Grand National look more intimidating, but somehow the Ringbrothers made it happen with INVADR. This Grand National would be the perfect ride for anyone who’s trying to conquer the galaxy.
