Driving a vintage car is one of the greatest ways to “See The U.S.A.”, to borrow a well-known phrase on the subject. Driving them regularly is the most fun way to keep the battery charged, and it is also a great way to keep our cars limber and ready for service. For those truly committed to putting miles of smiles on their odometers, a long-distance road trip is a great way to see the nation and enjoy your car or truck simultaneously. The folks at Speedtech Performance recently took two first-generation Camaros on a 1,600-mile road trip from its headquarters in St. George, Utah to the Goodguys event in Pleasanton, California.
Roger (Speedtech’s Regional Director of Sales and Marketing), and Jeremy (Speedtech’s R&D Specialist) loaded up their first-gen Camaros to head out on a road trip. But this was more than just an A-to-B endeavor. Roger’s 1969 Camaro named RedZed and Jeremy’s ’67 Camaro were treated to a litany of Speedtech Performance goodies before heading out on the open road.
Roger’s red ride uses a Speedtech Track Time front subframe while Jeremy’s gray, 1,000-horsepower rocket features Speedtech’s ExtReme front suspension assembly. Each road trip Camaro features Speedtech’s new cantilevered Independent Rear Suspension for first-generation Camaros featuring QA1 coilover shocks.
Beyond simply enjoying the Goodguys event once in Pleasanton, the trip was designed to put each Camaro’s chassis through the real-world gauntlet we call the American Highway System. Once at the event, Jeremy’s Camaro was further modified by swapping out the QA1 Mod Shocks in preparation for hitting the autocross. With just a few adjustments, the ’67 Camaro’s suspension was dialed in for competition. Then, once everything had cooled, it was adjusted back for road-tripping duty for the ride back home.
The duo spent some time reflecting on the trip’s highlights and the video shows plenty of action of the two road trip Camaros doing what they do best. Check out the video and then start planning a road trip for your vintage car or truck. And, if you find your vehicle’s suspension needs an upgrade, be sure to check out Speedtech Performance and QA1’s websites so your ride will eat up the miles with ease.
