Mad Max: Fury Road was the unexpected blockbuster of 2015, seamlessly integrating solid storytelling and character development into a two-hour chase of apocalyptic proportions. The real stars were the cadre of crazy vehicles of course, and no one can be blamed for imagining what our own end-of-the-world chariot might look like.
Well wonder no more, as the upcoming Mad Max video game lets you customize your ride as you cruise across the tortured remnants of civilization. IGN got a look at 20 minutes of gameplay from the open-world Mad Max game, from customizing your car to blowing up War Boys with Thundersticks, it’s all there for your apocalyptic pleasure. The world’s gone mad, so why not have some fun with it?
The game looks like it may answer some of the many questions the movie left us with, especially in regards to Max’s past, as well as that of the surrounding wasteland. The game begins by taking everything you had, including the famous Ford Falcon Interceptor, and leaving you to struggle to survive the wasteland. Ammunition is a rare and important tool to survival, but the game also forces players to find food, water, and shelter when a storm is on the way.
You won’t be alone though, as Max will find help along the way, including a companion character called Chumbucket that will fight alongside you, and repair you vehicle. Driving and vehicular combat take center stage, but Max is just as good with a gun or his bare knuckles. Customization of your apocalyptic ride is a big part of gameplay too, and you’ll have to curry favor with a number of unsavory characters to meet your ambiguous goals.
It’s an end-of-the-open-world Grand Theft Auto/Fallout mashup with hints of Twisted Metal mixed in. In other words, we can’t wait.
