NHRA racer Jason Line’s ’68 Biscayne Wagon Breaks Into the Low 11s

The 2006 NHRA Pro Stock champion, Jason Line recently knocked out an 11.03-second, 124.40 mph pass in his 4,500 pound ’68 Chevy Biscayne station wagon. While the Summit Racing NHRA Pro Stock driver is used to six-second passes in his Summit Racing Pontiac GXP, this low 11-second pass is the result of Jason’s  wagon project vehicle he purchased in 2009. Starting from scratch, Jason gave it a frame-off restoration (thanks to Street Customs and Restorations in Mooresville, North Carolina), and crammed in a massive 557 cubic inch big block beneath the hood.

“My original goal was to get 750 horsepower on pump gas,” Jason said. “We exceeded that goal, so I decided to shoot for a 10-second quarter mile. Considering the 140° track temperatures, I’m very pleased with the 11.03, but we’ll run the car again in the fall and get into the 10s for sure.”

The Biscayne weighs in nearly twice as much as his 2,300-pound Summit Racing Pro Stock GXP and features a GM Gen VI stroked 557 cubic inch big block. Utilizing Trick Flow PowerPort 360 cylinder heads, Trick Flow R-Series intake, a COMP Cams custom-ground camshaft, and a Willy’s carburetor, the plant produces 812 horsepower and 725 ft.-lbs. of torque. Totaling out the wagon is an ATI TH-400 transmission, Strange Posi-Traction unit, axles, and gears, and a whole bunch of Hotchkis suspension components which get all the power to a set of Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials.

“Pretty much every part on this car, you can buy out of the Summit Racing catalog,” Jason said. “And that’s what we did.”
