Now for something a little different, a box Chevy burnout from the Kingdom of Bahrain. The tiny island state that lies on the western shores of the Persian Gulf is better known for oil and pearls than plain Jane stock Chevy burnouts, but this one is pretty impressive for a 1990 Caprice LS with a smog engine 305 throttle body injection.

The only upgrades reported were a transmission swap to the turbo hydramatic 350 with a B & M shift kit and a new exhaust system featuring an H-pipe and FlowMaster 2 chamber mufflers.

For a Kingdom that doesn’t really have a lot of environmental laws governing mobile sources of pollution, we can’t figure out why the bone stock 305ci Caprice is the car of choice in Bahrain.

Bahrain certainly has a love for motorsports, of that there is no doubt. The country features a Formula One race track, which hosted the inaugural Gulf Air Grand Prix on April 4, 2004. This was a first for an Arab country. The following year the Bahrain Grand Prix was held and in 2006, the opening race of the Grand Prix season was held on March 12th.

In addition to the Grand Prix races, Bahrain also hosts Australian V8 Supercars in the “Desert 400” race with the V8’s returning every November for the Sakhir circuit.  The Bahrain International Circuit also features a full length drag strip where some of Europe’s top drag racing teams gather to raise the Middle East’s public interest in the sport.

With the developing love of racing in the area, we still have to wonder why this chocked down 305 performing a peg-leg burnout is so popular in the Kingdom?
