Are You Ready For The GM Nationals? Find Out What’s Planned For 2022

In case you have not made plans yet, I want to remind you the 2022 Carlisle GM Nationals will be happening again on June 24 and 25, 2022. This event offers the most fun you can have at a car show, so make sure you get there. Every year, this gathering of all things General Motors draws thousands of people and certainly is a must-attend event. What are you waiting for? Why not enter today and make it a getaway weekend for you and the family? In fact, if you register now, you can even save some cash when you enter.

We all want to save money, and for that reason, the folks at Carlisle Events have developed the Gate-N-Go program. If you pre-register before the Gate-N-Go deadline of Tuesday, May 10, you can save 10-percent on your registration costs.

When you register for the show by using Gate-N-Go, Carlisle Events will send you all of your needed paperwork in advance. That means you can drive right onto the grounds and immediately begin having a great time. Why wait in line and lose time that you could be spending on grounds enjoying the event? Register today via Gate-N-Go to save some of your money for the swap meet.

Unfortunately, after the May 10th Gate-N-Go Deadline has passed, the discount is no longer available, and show registration is full price. Why pay full price when you pay a discounted rate and have your materials mailed to you in advance. Register today and save.

The solid-lifter showroom is a gathering of some of the coolest muscle cars ever assembled.

Even if you do miss the Gate-N-Go deadline, you can still pre-register as pre-registration remains available until show week. When you pre-register, you cruise up to the Showfield Registration office, bypass one line, pick up your packet, and return to your car. Place the registration on your window and you and your guest can cruise onsite with minimal delay.

You can register online today at The Carlisle Registration Store or by calling the office at (717) 243-7855.

Have Your Car Featured

Each year, the GM Nationals features various models and certain vehicles to be part of the Featured Displays. This year, if you happen to have a Chevy II/Nova (all model years), third-generation Camaro or Firebird (1982 through 1992 model years, or one of Chevrolet’s small-size S-10 pickups (all model years), you could one of the featured displays.

If you are the owner of any of these vehicles and would like to attend the 2022 GM Nationals, please consider filling out the featured vehicle application.  If you have at least three photos of your vehicle handy, the form only takes a few minutes to complete. From there, event organizers will review all the submissions and extend invitations to those car owners who get accepted.

Find The Parts You Need At The GM Nationals

If you’re coming to the Carlisle GM Nationals to enjoy a day of looking at the unbelievably cool cars on the show field, you’ll be missing so much more. Because not far from those cool rides is an amazing mix of swap meet and midway vendors. That means if you’re looking for that last needed part, you’ll likely find it here.

When you visit the swap meet, you’ll be able to purchase rare finds, parts, collectibles, automobilia, toys for the kids, and even practical items for around the shop or the garage.  You could also find your first or next classic and buy direct from the seller within the on-site car corral. From common to rare, these experiences can only be fully realized in person.

Thrill Rides For All

A highlight of the event each year is the ever-popular Real Street Shootout Contest presented by UMI Performance. It is on the schedule once again. For the fifth year in a row, participants can sign up and compete for the chance to win several cash prizes ($300 – First, $200 – Second, and $100 – Third), as well as be crowned the Real Street Shootout Champion.

The shootout will begin with check-in at 5:00 p.m., followed by a driver’s meeting. At the conclusion of the meeting, a team of judges will evaluate each car for appearance and build quality. After all the cars have been judged, they will go through a tech inspection, and at 6:00 p.m., as the sun goes down, the lights come on and the cars will compete on the track.

If you think you and your car have what it takes to compete in the shootout, signup for the contest at Guest Services starting at 7:00 a.m. on Friday. This activity is on a first-come, first-serve basis, so be sure to sign-up when you get here!

GM Nationals

Participants must have a registered (and street legal) car on the GM Nationals show field, be 18 years of age or older, and have a valid license and insurance. Participants are required to bring their own helmets for safety. You will be unable to participate if you don’t have one.

Helmets are REQUIRED. Helmets must be SNELL Foundation certified, either “SA” (Special Application), “SAH” (Special Application Helmets Configured for use with frontal head restraints), “M” (motorcycle), or “EA” (Elite Automotive Sports). A SNELL foundation rating of “K” (karting) is NOT allowed. A DOT approval is not sufficient without the SNELL certification. A helmet from the second previous testing cycle is also allowed if it is SNELL certified and has a manufacture date less than ten (10) years old. e.g., in the year 2014, SNELL ratings of SA2005 or M2005 and SA2010 or M2010 will be legal. In addition, an SA2000 or M2000 helmet would be legal until they exceed 10 years of age.

*Due to safety concerns, stock height SUVs and trucks may be excluded from the contest.

Standard Of Excellence

This year, the GM Nationals will once again offer professional judging, known as the Standard of Excellence class. This is offered by the team members from eJudged. The Standard of Excellence judging class is limited to 50 cars, so pre-registration is highly recommended. Day-of registrations will be accepted, but reserving your space ahead of time is always a good idea. The Standard of Excellence participants will be part of an elite group of cars with a special section of the National Parts Depot (NPD) Show field. Cars within the Standard of Excellence class will be given unique awards for the top-15 cars and the Standard of Excellence; Best in Show winner will receive a cup trophy. Judged cars are eligible for Celebrity Choice Awards, which take place on Saturday of the event, and are invited to take part in the Winner’s Circle Parade on Sunday.

National Nova Unites At GM Nationals

Carlisle Events and the folks from the National Nostalgic Nova Club have teamed up to create a special meet within the GM Nationals NPD Showfield. The annual Novas at Carlisle “show within a show” is held throughout the event weekend. All fans of the Nova, regardless of club affiliation, are welcome to be part of this huge Nova Showfield. Nova classes have a designated highlighted area and attendees are welcome to join in all the fun under the north portion of our pavilion. All Novas will be parked in the blue Showfield, right between the midway and the pavilion near one of the main avenues of the Fairgrounds. This offers the Novas a great place to display while still remaining a part of the main show. Registration for Nova classes is still the same as in years past, there are simply more classes to choose from! All cars are also still eligible for the same awards as in previous years.

GM Nationals

On top of the special display cars, Novas at Carlisle will also feature several seminars geared towards Nova tech and history. The seminars are open to all attendees of the GM Nationals and will take place in the north part of the pavilion.

A special highlight for 2021 will be a selection of Nova Gold Class Award winners from events across the USA. These winners assembled in the southern portion of the pavilion are Novas that are at the top of their game scoring over 900 points in Gold Class Judging at Nova events. On Thursday and Friday, there will also be judging of several new Nova builds getting scored for hopeful Gold Class Awards.
