Barn Find: Groovy 1964 Corvette Roadster Unearthed

With today’s C2 Corvette values, it’s hard to believe anyone would ever cut one up. Yet back in the ’70s, these mid-year ‘Vettes were simply used cars and traded hands for cheap.

We found this heavily customized 1964 Corvette Roadster on Barn Finds and this formerly Satin Silver C2 saw years of hard use and dubious alterations. Based in Iowa, it has a laundry list of typical Corvette mods from back in the day. Thick, metal flake Candy Lime paint, radiused wheel wells, and raised rear ride height with bias-ply tires, three Crager mags, and one Keystone rim.

This is what the car probably looked like when it rolled off the line in St Louis all those years ago…

On one hand, this car is an untouched snapshot in time and a viable option would be to restore the car with all the mods intact.  Think of this thing with all the edges smooth out, the ride height evened out, and sparkling like new at a show and shine. The color is very cool and oh so Seventies.

On the other hand, I can’t help but think this car is a great restomod candidate. It has been so extensively modified that you wouldn’t have to adhere to stuffy old NCRS rules. We’d pull the body off, restore the wheel cutouts and fix any stress cracks and imperfections. With the body stock and razor straight, we’d drop it on an updated stock frame with an LS3 crate engine, button up the interior, and drive the wheels off it.

Then there is the question of what this thing is worth. The “Buy It Now” price is $26,500 and it has made the rounds on eBay before landing on Barn Finds. Some questions remain about this car, namely the condition of the frame and the windshield header that would determine its candidacy as a starting point for a restoration. Whatever route a new buyer would take, bring lots of money to restore this thing. The best part is you can build it exactly the way you want.
