Behold The World’s Only Turbine-Powered Batmobile

Genius Garage is known for its innovation on the racetrack and vintage race car restorations. However, founder Casey Putsch went a step further into the hearts of the comic book enthusiast by engineering a real-life Batmobile.

Yes, you heard that right, a fully-functional, military surplus Boeing turboshaft engine that idles at a crazy 20,000 rpm. The monster powerplant is pushing approximately 400 shaft-horsepower, paired with a semi-automatic, sequentially-shifted, 4-speed transmission with reverse powers this rear-wheel-drive rocketship.

Casey’s Bat-car weighs about the same as a Corvette, approximately 2800-lbs and features fully-independent suspension on airbags. Fully-independent cockpit-adjustable suspension with disc brakes? Wow! The chassis is semi-monocoque and tubular space frame made of steel with a composite body and canopy.

The turbine engine can run off of Jet-A or kerosene fuel and also has the capability, with some adjustments, to run on Diesel. The vehicle drives just as smooth on the highway as it does on city streets and is operated in comparison to any production car.

What kind of Batmobile would this be without .30 caliber Browning replica machine guns that fire oxy-propane sim-fire blanks. Features also include rear and side-view cameras with monitor and an iPad information center with 3G, that is centrally mounted on the dash.

Additionally, there are digital and analog gauges. Ride height can also be controlled by the iPad in the cockpit, similar to the front of newer Lamborghinis, allowing the owner to adjust the ride height to navigate any terrain.

Centrally mounted iPad controls suspension and so much more.

The cool factor isn’t done there! This bad boy is also equipped with a flamethrower tank and plumbing installed – the actuator, ignition, and nozzle are not installed, I’m sure for a multitude of safety reasons.

20,000 rpm at idle! Wow!

For anyone with questions on whether or not this type of build has any mechanical issues, the answer in this case is no. There have been no operational issues with the engine or hot start conditions to date since it’s been built. The only failure of any kind was a weak ignition that was quickly remedied with updated dual ignitor boxes.

The vehicle is currently registered and titled as a modified vehicle for street usage.

Genius Garage was founded in 2014 to bridge the gap in academics to industry. Their goal is to provide college engineering students with a straight line to careers within the automotive and aerospace industries.

They do their best to cultivate and develop real-world experience through problem-solving by restoring and racing vintage as well as specialty race cars. For more information on Genius Garage and their current projects, visit their website. “A 501 (c)3 Bright mind development program”.

“[Casey] is a brilliant mentor with an unparalleled passion and enthusiasm for what he does. The experiences that he has worked to create do an exceptional job of empowering students to achieve whatever it is they want in life.”  -Clint Teece, student

Lastly, the Batmobile is not available for display, events, rental or public visitation.
