A year ago, Fox News and other media sources stated that the Chevrolet Camaro was yet again dead. Luckily that was not the case, and the American muscle car had been put on hold for its 2023 scheduled upgrade. But since this announcement, how have sales been for the Pony Car line up?

As you can imagine, the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic has not played well for most business and especially not for car manufacturers. With companies forced to close, layoffs, and other problems associated with this virus, things have only gotten worse for some of the modern muscle cars. Since these cars are considered discretionary, meaning they are more of a want than a need, one would think in a time of crisis sales would plummet.

When we compare vehicle sales from the first quarter in 2019 to the first quarter in 2020, it paints a clear picture. As much as we hate to say this, if you’re a Camaro enthusiast, things are looking quite grim for a 2023 Camaro reboot.

Mustang Sales

The Ford Mustang is the only modern muscle car whose sales are in the positive. In 2019 Ford sold 16,917 Mustangs in the first quarter. For the first quarter of 2020, the company moved 18,069 ‘Stangs for a gain of +6.8-percent.

Dodge Sales

Sales numbers for Dodge dropped off from 2019 to 2020 slightly. In the first quarter of 2019, the company sold 13,431 Challengers and 20,615 Chargers. For the first quarter of 2020, the company sold 12,138 Challengers and 18,628 Chargers, which shows a 10-percent decrease in sales so far this year.

Camaro Sales

For the first quarter of 2019, the Camaro was in last place for Pony Car sales. Chevrolet was only able to move 12,083 units through its dealer network and the news only gets worse. For the first quarter of 2020, Chevrolet sold 7,185 of the sixth-generation Camaro. The numbers result in a 40.5-percent decrease in sales for the modern muscle car.

As of right now, the future is not looking too bright for the Camaro when compared to last years first quarter sales. Unfortunatly we will have to wait and see what’s in store for the car.
