When the first Camaro was built, it was done as a response to Ford’s Mustang. But right from the get-go, it was faster, meaner, and far more attractive than anything that was ever pushed out of the Ford factory. In our opinion, the looks of the Mustang body pales in comparison to the sleek lines of the Camaro. Of course it was hard to argue the appeal of the 1967 Camaro, but as with all things, little changes and improvements are made with each new model. This leads us to the 1969 Camaro, the last of the first generation, and possibly the most iconic musclecar of all time.

It’s getting harder and harder to find these cars untouched, as many have been modified or built into full-blown race cars. But once that has been done, it’s difficult – if not impossible, to restore it. “Up for your consideration,” as the ad states, is this incredibly cool, 1969 Camaro RS. It’s not a drag car, it’s not a particularly fast car, but it is cool, clean, and ready to drive.

Bruce Lake is the current owner of this car, and he lives in Binghamton, New York. He is 58 years old, and always has a classic car. “I owned a ’69 Z28 when I first got out of the army in 1979,” Bruce tells us. “I had that car for six years, and kind of miss that one.” Bruce is feeling the same pain that so many people do that lived through that era, the cars were plentiful and inexpensive. Now, if you manage to find a 1969 Z28 Camaro, it is going to cost you a fortune.

He bought this car just over a year ago, in September of 2014. “A plain Jane Camaro,” he says. “The reason I bought this car, is that I am only the third owner. The story goes that a father bought it for his daughter as a graduation present. In 1983 when the car was showing its age, the father had it completely restored for her, and she drove it until 1990 when her father passed away.” Bruce told us that after her father passed, she couldn’t bear to see the car anymore, and sold it, as it reminded her too much of her father. The man that bought it from her owned it from 1992 until 2014 when Bruce bought it.

The car when Bruce bought it.

Since Bruce has owned it, he added the RS package, and has performed a few other minor modifications to the car. “I am the type of person that has to have something, then once I get it, I make it more desirable to the next person, and then I sell it.” Bruce is one of those guys that once he is done working on a car, there isn’t as much interest in it for him. He gets everything the way he wants it, right before he sells it.

Right now, he is on the hunt for a 1970 to 1972 Buick GS 455 Stage 1 car with a floor-shifted automatic transmission. If you have something like that, send him an email, maybe you can work out a trade. See the original ad here. Otherwise, $35,000 is the price for this car.
