Choosing Your Level Of Suspension Performance With Heidts

In case you have been living under a rock, suspension upgrades are a staple in the automotive hobby. True enthusiasts want their cars to handle better than ever. That’s why many have been modifying the underpinnings of their cars and trucks for decades. Once the improved ride, handling characteristics, and suspension geometry are realized, there is no going back. The folks at Heidts Hot Rod and Muscle Car Parts know that as well as anyone.

But there are many options available to enthusiasts, and to clear some of the confusion, the folks at Heidts have put together a short, 5-minute video explaining the various levels of performance suspensions offered by the Illinois-based company.

Whether building a muscle car or a classic “hot rod,” knowing what your ride can best utilize is key to great performance. Heidts entry-level suspension if the classic Mustang II kit. This suspension comes complete with crossmember, paintable tubular upper and lower A-frame-style control arms, 11-inch five-lug rotors, bearings and seals, springs, shocks, stock spindles, GM calipers with brackets and pads, manual rack-and-pinion with tie-rod ends and bushings, rubber spring cushions, spindle nuts w/washers, and all mounting hardware. Stabilizer bars are available for many applications.

Next is the Superide. This is street rod focused and gives a much better ride than a traditional four-link with a dropped axle—at a comparable cost. It adds more cash value to your car than any other type of suspension. This is a step above the traditional Mustang II suspension and was designed as a complete system. That means the individual components are not interchangeable with any other stock pieces. Every piece was designed specifically by Heidts for the Superide systems.

According to Heidts, the Superide II system is the ultimate front suspension system for fat fendered hot rods. This system uses a Mustang II spindle, which allows for a front-mount rack-and-pinion, offering added room for easy engine installation. The upper control arms use threaded adjusters for the wheel alignment. This is a highly steerable suspension with no bump steer and offers built-in anti-dive. Installing the three-piece cross member is an easy operation.

If you’re looking for the ultimate corner-carving suspension, then the Pro-G is what you need. Pro-G is a purpose-built suspension designed to make your car handle. The Pro-G comes with a 2-inch drop spindle that is designed for the hardcore racer who wants the best of both worlds on the street and the track.

The Superide is a street rod focused suspension and gives a much better ride than a traditional four-link with a dropped axle.

This spindle is exclusive to Heidts and is the key to the Pro-G suspension. The Pro-G delivers improved geometry over stock suspensions, which yields better control over camber gain, roll center migration, and anti-dive to deliver more grip, better handling, and shorter braking distances. The Pro-G’s upper and lower control arms are constructed from 1.25- and 1.5-inch steel tubing, and are engineered to handle heavy loads, fending off deflection, and the control arms also feature threaded adjusters for easy suspension alignment and urethane and Delrin bushings for better compliance. Add in 10-way-adjustable coilover shocks, 11-inch disc brakes, and a power-assisted rack-and-pinion, and you can see that this well-designed system is ready to give your muscle car a serious injection of attitude.

As you can see, whether building a traditional hot rod or classic ground-pounding muscle car, finding the right suspension to make your ride the best it can be is as easy as contacting Heidts.
