The beginning of the year is typically a hot time for classic car auctions and this year is no exception. All the big names have an event in January, including Barrett-Jackson, Russo and Steele, RM Auctions and Mecum Auctions. The latter is holding its January event in Kissimmee, FL, while the others have concentrated in Arizona.
Mecum Auctions’ 5-day event is said to be the industry’s largest January get-together for buyers and sellers of collectible and enthusiast cars. With some 1750 cars slated to cross the auction block, the Kissimmee Auction also features a significant offering for Corvette collectors.
For company president, Dana Mecum, it’s a bit of a homecoming. “Our annual Kissimmee event started as an all Corvette sale 11 years ago and remains a natural location for collectors to buy and sell Corvettes,” he said. America’s sports car is well represented, with example all the way from 1953 through 2008.
Among the more notable cars on the no-reserve bid list are a 1953 Corvette Roadster – #127 of 300 built that year, a 1968 L88 Convertible and a 1969 L89 427/435 HP Coupe. Other cars that will sell for the right price include a 1991 Chevrolet Corvette Greenwood Prototype, a 1987 Callaway Corvette and a 1969 Corvette Nostalgia Funny Car, which was Originally Jim Shue’s Hell Fire Corvette.
Mecum’s Kissimmee Auction runs from Wednesday, January 26 through Sunday, January 30, at the Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, FL. Additional information is available on the event web site, or by calling 1-815-568-8888.
