Dropped, Chopped, And LS Swapped: Pro Touring ’68 Camaro

When it comes to restoring a down-and-out muscle car from the past, there are many paths one can take. Purists will argue that the car must have period correct components, while others take the route of producing a more modern classic with modern amenities – like a restomod, for example.

And then you have the guys at Pro Comp Custom out of Glenshaw, Pennsylvania – who like to think outside of the box. Their restoration path enabled them to build a completely-custom chopped and slammed LS swapped ’68 Camaro.

12195892_901049333324649_7246233931351165064_nGRBy the looks of the car, it’s obvious that this isn’t your average classic Camaro restoration by any means. If you were to ask us – we’d say it’s almost a hybrid of a pro-touring muscle car and a hotrod. Nevertheless, this Camaro received a complete restoration from the frame up, and includes a rather dramatic transition from it’s original state. For starters, the obvious lines of the roof have been lowered, chopped 3-inches to be exact. And the front clip of this blue, 427 cubic-inch LS-powered machine has been sectioned 3-inches as well.

The car has the look – but does it function? The short answer is – yes. Astonishingly, nothing has been left untouched on this Camaro.

Every new component the Camaro has received has been selected for a certain purpose. From its in-house fabricated stainless-steel exhaust, to the 4L80E automatic transmission and the Dutchman quick-change rear-end - this Camaro is ready to hit the streets and cruise on it's 19 by 12-inch wide Boze Clutch wheels and all-around Toyo Proxes R888 tires.

Comfortable cruising comes from a custom Martz Chassis suspension setup in conjunction with Ride Tech Shockwaves air bags, while braking performance is handled by a Wilwood big brake kit. After this blue devil Camaro debuted at this year’s SEMA Show, we can’t help but wonder what’s next for the car.

Maybe we’ll have the chance to see it in person again at this year’s PRI show? In the mean time, check out Pro Comp Custom’s website for more images on the build process from start to finish here.
