Car buyers often bite the buying bullet on eBay, bidding on dream cars in hopes of landing a fair price. When browsing the popular bidding site, the Ford Mustang listings are almost endless. However, if you are looking for something specific, chances are that you might just find it. Old muscle car enthusiasts will pay thousands upon thousands to get their hands on rare classics and this 1970 Mach 1 R-Code Super Cobra Jet Drag Pack, just 1 of 64, is no exception.
The car in this listing has the original matching drivetrain and the Medium Bright Metallic Blue body is free of rust. Sold brand new in Colorado, the second owner purchased it back in 1975. The car was taken off the road in the early ’80s until April of 2006. That is when the third owner purchased it and had it shipped from California to Florida.
Right after making its arrival to Florida, the engine and transmission were both pulled in December of 2007, and then the rolling body was sent to Muscle Car Restorations in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. That shop completely disassembled the car and sent off all of the sheet metal for chemical stripping and e-coat. Hundreds of hours were spent on prepping, painting and detailing the body inside and out. Seam undercoating overspray was performed as close to the original as possible and suspension work was performed as well.
This rare Mach 1 SCJ also has the Drag Pack-speed, 4.30 gears, and a Detroit Locker. The original 428ci SCJ engine was rebuilt by Powered By Ford in Orlando, Florida and includes the VIN stamped on the back of the head and “Super” stamped on the side. It still has the original rear (rebuilt), radiator, fan, shaker, s-tube, rev-limiter, Hurst shifter, carburetor, distributor and exhaust manifolds.
Replacement parts include fuel pump, starter and has Koni shocks. The RUG-AZ top-loader was also rebuilt and also includes the VIN# stamped on it.
Other features include fold down seats, power steering and power brakes, AM/FM stereo and tinted glass. The owner still has the elite Marti Report, original invoice, original buck tag, and the car has the VIN# stamped under both fenders.
