The 2003-’04 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra is still hailed as one of the best Mustangs ever built. The factory supercharged engine pumped out nearly 400 horsepower in as-delivered form, while Ford’s engineers finally saw fit to install an independent rear suspension underneath the well-worn Fox-based chassis.
Fast forward to 10 years later, and the majority of the 19,140 Cobras produced are getting long in the tooth. Many of them have ended up in ditches or otherwise found their way into the local junkyard, but there are a very select few that are still out there rolling around in pristine condition – and this is one of them.
The car has been modified by the present owner and features a fully-built 4.6L engine stuffed full of Ross pistons, Manley forged connecting rods, and the factory forged crankshaft. A nine-quart Canton oil pan has been installed underneath the engine to keep the fluids readily available. The heads have been ported, and COMP Stage 2 camshafts sit on top.Â
He’s tuned up the fuel system with a complete Aeromotive return-style setup including A1000 fuel pump and half-inch lines feeding 72 lb./hr. fuel injectors.
But the real star of the show is without a doubt the 3.4L Whipple supercharger sitting on top, making plenty of boost. Transmission duties are handled by an Anaheim Gear-modified T56 six-speed transmission, and Bassani midlength headers combine with Borla Stinger mufflers – we are absolutely sure this thing rips under throttle.
Underneath, Maximum Motorsports gear has been installed in the front end, and a four-point Maximum rollbar is up top to ensure structural rigidity. 18-inch chrome Saleen-style wheels wrapped in Toyo Proxes 4 Plus tires finish the car’s look off. Ford Racing’s now-discontinued Brembo four-piston stoppers are combined with Baer brake rotors and Hawk pads to provide the whoa factor.
The interior has a set of Sparco seats and a fully-done show-quality audio system including JL Audio, Alpine, and MB Quart pieces.
Frankly, this car appears to be nothing short of awesome, and if there was a way for us to scrape up the $32K Buy It Now price, we’d be on the way to go pick it up. Every modification a Cobra owner could want or need has already been performed, and the car dynos at 642 horses to the wheels.
Maybe it’s time to make it yours?
