With the current crop of supercars that we’ve seen lately, one car is almost forgotten from the bunch: the Saleen S7, like this one we found on eBay recently. The S7 was Steve Saleens contribution to the high performance supercar market with a normally aspirated version available from 2000-2004, and the twin turbo version introduced as a production model in 2005 through 2009. The car was built in Irvine, California, and at the time was the only car produced by Saleen that wasn’t based on an existing chassis.
Saleen’s prior motorsports involvement consisted mainly of Mustangs, and even sponsored Tim Allen’s foray into SCCA racing with RRR Speedlab, and fellow racer Bob Bondurant in 1995. In 2007, Steve Saleen resigned from Saleen, Inc., to pursue other business opportunities, and the world of Saleen Mustang owners couldn’t believe that there wouldn’t be an actual “Saleen” involved with the company anymore.
In 2012, however, those sighs were relinquished with the announcement that Steve Saleen was once again associated with Saleen, Inc., and we began to see more of the Saleen we used to know. Many were aware that Saleen wasn’t just about Ford, as there were some Camaros and Challengers that bore the Saleen brand, and of course the excitement of a possible new supercar last year was announced as the Raptor took shape.
And if the Camaro and Challenger weren’t enough to convince you Saleen was back, check out the Tesla that Saleen has a hand in. Even the all-electric sedan wasn’t off limits, and turned out pretty cool. So do all of these exciting cars bearing the Saleen brand make a car like the 2005 S7 worth more than its original sale price?
This limited production, hand-built car originally sold for just under 600,000 bucks, and the buy it now is set at $695,000, with a starting bid at half a million. No matter how you slice it, the S7 is one of those cars that you don’t see often – but when you do it reminds you of just how cool that car is.
This mid-engine burgundy beauty is sporting just over 10,000 miles, and a claimed 850 horsepower. There’s a few days left, any takers?
