In the 1950s and 1960s, no car better represented making it in America than Cadillac. Long, wide, and often taking up two parking spaces or more, a big fancy Cadillac was already a hard-to-ignore car. But if you wanted something so over the top that it would be forever ingrained on the hearts and minds of auto enthusiasts everywhere, you would talk to the one and only George Barris, the King of Kustoms.
For Cadillac and Barris fans, the ultimate automobile is the Cadillac Eldorado del Cabbalero, an over-the-top pimpmobile painted a bright orange, rocking a white vinyl top, and hosting a suite of old-school luxury technologies that would be the envy of the block back in the day.
While Barris performed custom work on many model years of the Cadillac Eldorado, up on eBay right now is a rare 1967 Eldorado equipped with a sunroof option. While the color is called Kandy Pagan Gold, it looks like an atypical bright orange paint pre-dating the orange obsession of the 70’s by at least a few years.
The seller claims to have undertaken an extensive cosmetic restoration, spending over $22,000 to get the car repainted and cleaned up. But as so often happens, the seller has lost interest in the ride, and while it still needs a little work to be 100% done, a lot of the hard stuff has already been taken care of. Just don’t expect to get this Caddy cheap; anything touched by Barris is automatically more valuable…even if it is a tasteless pimpmobile.
