The folks over at Autoholics turned us on to these cool pics of one of the Dodge Chargers that was in the movie “Fast and the Furious Five.” The car itself is a 1970 Dodge Charger, and it was recently up for sale on eBay, but it didn’t reach the reserve. This particular car was actually what they called the “green screen” car, which means it was really used and driven by the live actors, and not by stuntmen for high-speed scenes or crashes.
As you can tell by the pictures, the interior is pretty scarce, just a roll bar, aluminum dashboard, and the shifter. We can also tell by the pictures of the engine compartment, that the supercharger is fake, or at least inoperable, due to the fact, there are no internals and there is no drive belt connected.
Not to burst anyone’s bubble, especially the Mopar guys, if you look closely you can in fact see that this Charger really has a small block Chevy under the hood. We noticed the little valve covers, and the center header tubes are real close together. A second glance also reveals that the distributor is in the back of the engine, and you can clearly see the General Motors distributor, and the small block Chevy passenger side valve cover.
So it’s safe to say that if you’re looking for a famous movie prop… here it is, but if you’re looking for a Mopar to restore, this is probably not the one for you, because most of the original interior and drivetrain are gone. The last time it was on eBay it was up to $35,000 without meeting its reserve. We would have to agree that this is one Dodge Charger that is best kept, and left alone as a famous Hollywood film car.
