Back in 2019, we put Edelbrock’s Pro-Flo 4 to the test with the help of KPE and their engine dyno. This standalone EFI system from Edelbrock held its own as we tested it on a bone stock junkyard 5.3 engine making 330 horsepower and 347 lb-ft torque. We then upgraded the cam and valvetrain with COMP Cams equipment and made an impressive 440 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque after three pulls while adding timing through a Bluetooth tablet. We should also note this combination has been powering our daily driver for the last three years without any problems. And while this system has been flawless, Edelbrock is getting ready to introduce a new and improved version, the Pro-Flo 4+.
The new Pro-Flo 4+ kit will build off the previous version with more versatility and options. The new system will still provide a plug-and-play control system specially designed for the Gen III/IV LS engines to support drive-by-wire (DBW). The Pro-Flo 4+ will also support dual throttle bodies now if you want to run two DBW units on the Edelbrock Cross Ram intake manifold. LS applications utilize a speed density fueling strategy with the help of an OEM MAP sensor which eliminates the factory MAF sensor, inlet air piping, and air box. Another addition to the 4+ is non-adjustable alternator control is set to regulate the supported OEM alternators at 14.5 volts.
Edelbrock’s Pro-Flo 4+ kit includes a small ECU, which is easy to mount and includes a base calibration. The OEM-style wiring harness offers connections for the MAP, O2, and fuel pressure sensors. A Bluetooth tablet for wireless programming is included with some packages and allows for diagnostics, performance monitoring, and calibration adjustments.
