On July 31st through August 2nd Barrett-Jackson will be teaming up with the coordinators of nationally renowned event, Hot August Nights, to present their second Hot August Nights auction. For those who aren’t familiar with the folks at Barrett-Jackson, they are responsible for putting together some of the finest auction events throughout the country.
According to the company’s mission statement, “Since the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company’s inception in 1971, our reputation has been built on selling world-class vehicles and specializing in providing products and services to astute classic and collector car owners and enthusiasts around the world.”
Rod Authority was going to compile a list of five vehicles to spotlight, but with so many gorgeous classics we decided to call it at six! Check out the six vehicles that caught our eye amongst Barrett-Jackson’s 200+ lots slated to make an appearance atop the auction block over the weekend. These six classics will undoubtedly cause a stir. Check out the following spotlights and take your guess as to how much you think they’ll sell for in the comments below!
Lot 47 – 1949 Chevrolet 3600 Flatbed Truck
According to the description, “This beautiful 1949 Chevrolet truck has had two local owners since new, features a straight-6, original 4-speed transmission, and complete repaint from two years ago.”
The interior has received some real treatment–the bench seat was given a new seat cover, springs, and foam. New headliner, visors, and door panels highlight a thorough upholstery job. To top if off, new rubber floor mats and door seals have been added.
Hardware has been given a facelift as well. The ’49 features new window cranks and inner and outer door handles. The steering wheel and gauge cluster have also been refurbished. The current owner has really gone out of their way to ensure that every nook and cranny of the inside is just as beautiful as the outside.
The exterior of the ’49 features “new bumper and hubcaps, new front and rear glass, new battery, muffler, and a recent tune-up.”
The highlight of this vehicle is the gorgeous quality of the refinished wood flat bed. The bed frame is solid oak while the stakes are made from cedar.
Lot 59 – 1959 Ford F-100 Pickup
For our Ford fans out there we caught site of this F-100 that featured full quality restoration as well. According to the lot description, this was a frame-off restoration that was completed in 2009. The fresh green paint job is contrasted by crisp wide whitewall tires.
The truck is powered by a 223 ci 6-cylinder mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. “During the restoration nothing was overlooked. The engine was completely rebuilt.”
If you’re a fan of “new” this ’59 has got it, “New clutch, new brakes, new hoses, new chrome, new rubber seals, new windshield, new tires, and all new gaskets.” Of course there’s always value in restoring vintage parts, but interested buyers can rest assured knowing that all the things that NEED to be new have been changed out.
This truck was built in San Jose, California and the consignor has over $24,000 in receipts as well as a shop manual for those eyeing this classic.
Lot 335 – 1930 Pontiac 2-Door Convertible
This car is special because it was cast in the films Tucker and Inventing the Abbotts. It is a regal roadster with a soft retractable top and a rumble seat. Dual spare mounts, wire wheels, wind wings, front and rear bumpers, a luggage trunk, and heater top off this simple yet classic portrayal of American engineering in the early 20th century.
“The engine was replaced from a 1930 Pontiac in 1990 and overhauled and repaired in 1997.” The cream body contrasted by orange wire wheels and whitewall tires make this a real summer treat.
Lot 359 – 1956 Studebaker Golden Hawk 2-Door Hardtop
This ’56 Studebaker is a great piece for those always on the pursuit for something a little different. The Golden Hawk was produced from 1956 to 1958 and for that very reason this is one very unique and rare car.
According to J “Kelly” Flory, Jr. author of American Cars, 1946 to 1959: Every Model, Year by Year, “The Golden Hawk took the basic shape of the 1953-1955 Champion/Commander Starliner hardtop coupe, but added a large, almost vertical egg crate grille and raised hoodline in place of the earlier car’s swooping, pointed nose.”
The lot description also goes into further detail about the Golden Hawk’s source of uniqueness, “This is especially scarce because of the unusual powertrain which combines Packard’s huge V8 with the factory 3-speed overdrive transmission.”
Featuring a mocha and beige paintjob, the lot description ends by stating, “Handling, ride, and drive qualities are outstanding. Optional equipment includes dual exterior rearview mirrors, luxury wheel covers, wide whitewall tires, factory radio, and two-tone paint with color-keyed interior mocha/doe trim scheme.
Lot 710 – 1941 Willys Americar Custom Coupe
This ’41 Willys is a very rare classic. It was one of three cars built and designed by Woodys Hot Rodz. “The car was built for speed, handling, and braking. Everything in this Willys is top-notch, one-off custom.”
It features an Art Morrisson chassis with a 9-inch rearend, 4-link, and Strange coilover shocks. The rearend is a limited-slip with 3.70 gears. 12 1/2-inch Wilwood 4-piston caliper disc brakes have been fitted onto the front and rear.
Under the hood is a 5.7 HEMI mated to a 4L60E automatic transmission, power steering, and Vintage Air air conditioning.
Inside, the Willys features brown interior, power windows, Stealth stereo, and Classic Instruments gauges.
If pedigree is what you’re looking for in a collector car, this ’41 has some publication and award history backing it: “This Willys was featured in Street Rod Builder, Street Rodder, Super Rod, and Chevy Rumble. It was also a Boyd Coddington Pro Pick at Goodguys in 2008.
Lot 753 – 1932 Ford Custom Roadster
Last, but certainly not least is this ’32 roadster that is chock-full of aftermarket updates. It sits on a fully boxed Pro-Street frame, highly modified to “withstand the punishment from its 1,100+ horsepower 540 ci all-aluminum HEMI engine.” Front suspension features a fully chromed dropped tube axle with 4-bars and transverse leaf spring. “Steering is easy with the ‘unisteer’ rack and pinion setup and tilt column.”
Rear suspension features a shortened 9-inch rearend with a polished aluminum center section/posi-traction with a gear ratio of 3.73 and 320 spline race axles.
“The Jet Black paint is a 2-stage PPG and looks a mile deep. The interior is top grade Italian leather finished in Ferrari Red. The seat was designed to give maximum foot room and the brake and throttle controls were placed for driver comfort. All of the carpets including the trunk are German wool. The roll bar is a fully functional part of the chassis.”
