Hot rod culture isn’t just an American thing. The hot rod bug bit the entire world in the 50s and 60s, and the Chopped Show is pure proof of that. Chopped is a print magazine specifically for traditional hot rod and custom cars that focuses on the golden age of hot rodding, the 50s and 60s. Every year, they put on a massive three day show that fully embodies the lifestyle.
The Chopped Show is so much more than just a show. The upcoming October 2-4, 2015 show will be laid out next to the Newstead Racecourse in Castlemain, Victoria, Australia. This event does have a show section, but also gives attendees the opportunity to have a ton of fun with drag racing in the dirt, wicked live bands, food, and drink. With camping areas on site, this event is unlike any other. When the show stops, the party rages on!
Display cars have a few rules to follow. Everything is pre-1965 traditional style hot rods and customs only. Billet wheels are a no-no, IFS on fenderless cars is a no-no, VW’s that aren’t era-correct Volksrods or VW Drag cars are nixed. 60s and earlier mag wheels are all you are allowed to run for aftermarket wheels. This show is also open to traditional style Bobbers and Choppers with a kick start. The drag races are setup for pre-1965 traditional style rods, gassers, pre-1968 legit race cars as well as bobbers and choppers. These rules may seem slightly over the top but it makes for an amazing era correct experience!
