Whether it’s a muscle car, that old Chevy pickup, or a pre-war hot rod, we all have a project in the garage that we wish we could get back on the road. The biggest part of most projects, the engine, is usually what we lack to hit the streets and burn some rubber. Now you can finish your project car with Holley’s 383 Chevy giveaway.
Holley has paired with Prestige Motorsports in North Carolina and built a custom small-block Chevy 383 that would be perfect for your hot rod, cruiser, daily driver, classic truck, or anything in-between. But don’t think this is some low-buck 383 loaded with bottom-dollar off-brand parts; the components Prestige Motorsports used to create this 500-plus horsepower pump-gas small block looks like the spare-no-expense parts list we all dream of.
Starting with an OEM Chevrolet 1-piece rear main seal iron block, the team at Prestige Motorsports filled it with a custom forged rotating assembly. Consisting of a 3.750-inch stroke Eagle Forged 4140 Steel Crankshaft, 6.000-inch Eagle SIR I-beam 5140 forged steel connecting rods with ARP hardware, and 4.030-inch bore D.S.S. forged 4032 alloy flat-top pistons with a gas-nitrided steel top ring set. A rotating assembly this robust will give you tens of thousands of trouble-free miles while still being tough enough to handle a rowdy weekend at the dragstrip without breaking a sweat.
The newly assembled short block was then topped with PM’s 180cc aluminum cylinder heads, with 2.02 and 1.600 stainless valves, bronze valve guides, and Comp Cams dual valve springs to match the hydraulic roller cam. The cam measures 240 degrees of duration on the intake and 252 degrees on the exhaust at 0.050 on a 108 degree lobe separation angle. Comp Cams 1.6 ratio full roller Ultra-Gold Aluminum Rocker Arms pushed the valve lift to 0.608 inches on the intake and 0.592 inches on the exhaust. This combination brings our crate engine to a pump-gas-friendly 10.4:1 compression ratio that can breathe easily to make 500-plus horsepower with an idle that’ll turn heads at the local car show.
For induction, Holley supplied a single plane port-injection intake manifold fueled by one of their Holley EFI Systems and a billet distributor to make it all run in sync. Holley also supplied the mid-mount black serpentine belt accessory drive kit to keep everything tightly tucked under the hood and their matching black finned aluminum valve covers. You can be assured that this crate engine comes complete, from the Moroso oil pan to the intake, and was run-in on the Prestige Motorsports engine dyno.
So what were the final numbers on this 383 giveaway crate engine? 511 horsepower at 6200 and 470 lb-ft of torque at 5000 rpm. But those peak numbers don’t tell the full story; this 383 makes over 400 lb-ft of torque from 3500 rpm to redline, enough to make any car or truck a handful on the street. A complete custom crate engine build of this caliber would cost you tens of thousands of dollars these days, and now it can be yours plus an additional $5,000 in cash to help fund the other odds and ends to get your project up and running. So don’t wait, sign up now so you can finish your project car with Holley’s 383 Chevy giveaway!
