Well, the inevitable has happened, and only one day before the official release of the 2016 Camaro at Bell Isle in Detroit. This time, it wasn’t a spy photo, but what seems to be a controlled leak by CNBC’s Squawk Box. Or was it an accident?
We don’t know if it was an accident for sure, but we know for a fact that GM has something awesome planned for the actual reveal. The reveal of the car on national television doesn’t only come with a few sneak peeks of the car, but specs, too. Jalopnik is reporting with engine specs from one of their close sources, and they’re exactly what we speculated/expected. Unofficially, the base Camaro will come with a 270 hp turbocharged 4-cylinder, which makes sense because the new Camaro shares the Alpha platform with the ATS and CTS. The second engine choice is a revised 3.6-liter V6 that is said to produce 330 hp, a 10 hp bump over the previous V6. Jalopnik also updated the post saying that the new V6 is presumably the new engine from the upcoming Cadillac CT6. And finally, the SS model of the Camaro will get a 440 hp LT1, straight out of the Stingray, only with about 20 less horsepower.
We weren’t too surprised about the exterior styling when we saw these photos of the Camaro, though. We knew they were going to stick to a majority of the fifth-generation’s styling, but with a bunch of little updates. And it actually looks pretty damn good. We’re hoping the interior is where the bigger changes will be. We will be out at the actual reveal tomorrow, so stay tuned for coverage as the action unfolds!
