They say racing is in your blood but no one has to tell that to the individuals that participate in the drag racing events put on by the National Muscle Car Association (NMCA). They just simply know it to be the truth. That’s why it is fitting that the NMCA is welcoming Hedman Hedders, another race-obsessed entity, to their lineup of sponsors for the 2012 race season. Hedman Hedders has been in the business of creating performance race headers since 1954 when it was founded by Bob Hedman. To fuel his personal racing need, Hedman sold his custom exhaust tubes to racers on the Mojave Desert salt flats and the business blossomed from there. Now some 58 years later, Hedman Hedders has become one of the leaders in the performance and race exhaust industry.
For 2012, Hedman Hedders will sponsor the NMCA WEST’s Nostalgia Street Car Class, renaming it the Hedman Nostalgia Street Car Class. But the performance exhaust company’s sponsorship doesn’t end when race season dies down at the end of this year, however. Hedman Hedders will sponsor the class through at least 2014.
Although Hedman is taking over the sponsorship of the Nostalgia Street Car Class, it will carry the same guidelines as in years past. All door-slammers from 1982 and before are welcome in the class which features handicapped, index-style drag racing for “grocery getter” type cars and wicked racecars alike.
Having the fastest car at the track isn’t necessary to win in the Nostalgia class. The tiered-style racing allows cars with few or no modifications to be competitive against even the blown, nitrous-wielding supercars at the strip.
“Hedman Hedders Nostalgia Street Car is sure to be one of the NMCA WEST’s most popular classes as fans watch old school muscle cars put on a show, in search of a world championship,” President of the NMCA WEST Series, Charlie Harmon was quoted as saying about the NMCA’s sponsorship announcement. “Hedman Hedders is one of the most recognized brands in the performance aftermarket, and their products are a perfect fit for NMCA WEST racers and fans.”
We’re excited to see a familiar name sponsoring the NMCA West’s Nostalgia Street Car Class. With Hedman Hedders on board, the NMCA drag racing events can only get better than they already are.
