We all have love for dirt track racing, even if it seems infinitesimal to drag racers and short-course fanboys. Whipping around a muddy, clay-caked patch of earth in a loud, raging machine really ignites one’s passion and feeling, testing every nerve and fiber from the hair on our head to the tips of our toes. And that’s why we think this car is nothing if not exceptional or thrilling.
We found this teal beauty by way of the Hemmings Classifieds, where its owner has placed the price of $14,500 for his race-ready Chevy. For that kind of money, you’re getting a decent bang for the buck–most likely.
As the owner states, this ’64 Chevy II has endured much of its life in Richmond, Virginia. Carroll St. Auto, LLC owned the vehicle in spirit, bankrolling its rampages starting in 2006 with the Star Senior Tour of the New England circuit. In all likelihood, it had a fun time in its home state as well, flinging mud at such locales as the Virginia Motor Speedway in the town of Jamaica, or Rolling Thunder Raceway in south-based Ararat.
Of noteworthy distinction on the car is the chassis, which owes its creation to Emanuel Zervakis. Zervakis was a longtime NASCAR figure who drove back in the ’50s and ’60s, winning two NASCAR Grand National (now Sprint Cup) races in his career. He later became an owner for a couple of years, managing big-time drivers like Butch Lindley and Ricky “Rooster” Rudd in the early ’80s.
Resto-mod features like disc brakes, MSD 6AL ignition box, and Koni adjustable shocks give the car some nice modern comforts. Older items like the original front and rear chrome bumpers add that classic feel to the car which can stay or go, depending on your preference, but do little to make the thing go faster.
One thing’s for sure about this Chevy II–it’s earned its stripes on the track, and can definitely keep going for years to come. Whether or not that’s your bag, we leave it to you to decide. If it helps at all, Scooby Doo is apparently a fan.
