High Option Original Hemi Cuda Set to Cross Auction Block

The 1970 Hemi ‘Cuda is perhaps one of the most coveted cars for muscle car fans. It is the epitome of what the original muscle car era was all about, gargantuan horsepower in a light package. Were this the first go around for such a beast, we have no doubt that they’d be roaming the streets in hoards. The truth is, however, as legendary as this car is today, not as many of them were built as auctions, television shows and magazines would lead you to believe. Coupe and convertible production totaled just 666 cars for 1970.

Many of these cars may have met their demise on the race track, as we know that they were a favorite of racers during the time. Also some may have met the crusher during the gas crisis, when many street going owners couldn’t afford the high-test gas that was needed to satisfy the angry beast under the hood.

Obviously, with such low production numbers coupled with legendary performance, a real Hemi ‘Cuda form this era is a highly valued commodity. With the car being over forty years old now as well, many of the survivors have been subjected to restoration.

Then there’s this car. A real 1970 Hemi ‘Cuda, with only 12,000 original miles and quite possibly one of the most original of these cars you’ll ever see. Unlike many of these cars that we see cross the auction block which were low option cars, ordered for racing, this car is highly optioned.

Options on this car include painted front bumper, hood pins, shaker hood, tinted glass, vinyl roof and Rally wheels. Inside you’ll find six way adjustable bucket seats, center console, three spoke steering wheel, rally gauges, and an eight-track AM/FM radio.

Under the hood of course is the 426/425HP street Hemi, backed by a four speed transmission, and the A33 Track Pack rear axle option that gave the car a 3.54 geared Dana rear end. The car has received The Bloomington Gold Survivor ZZenith award which certifies its originality, including the paint.

It will be auctioned at the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, FL, and is set to cross the block Saturday, January 19, at around 2:30 PM. We’re curious to see what this car will bring. We’re also wondering what would you do with a low mileage original ‘Cuda? Put it on display, hide it away, or drive it? Tell us below.
