Honda Civic Turbo vs. Dodge Challenger
There has always been an utter distaste for imports, or “ricers” if you will, among muscle car enthusiasts. Whether it’s because they sound like lawn mowers or because you’ll inevitably get one trying to egg you on virtually every time you drive your muscle car, there is something about a whining four-banger that just doesn’t quite fit in the same class as an all-American V8-powered vehicle.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean imports aren’t staking their claim on drag strips as one modern Challenger owner found out when lined up against a turbocharged Honda Civic recently. Check out the results in the video above courtesy of Autoholics.
We’re all car people here so we can’t totally discredit the powerful imports we see at the track. After all, 500+hp is impressive on any vehicle. Strap that much power to a car that weighs only about a ton, and you’ve got yourself a pretty fierce race competitor. However, that doesn’t mean we have to like them.
So who won in this race? You’ll have to watch the video to find out. We will say this, however: the war between import and muscle is not over. If this video is proof of anything, it is that ricers are encroaching a bit too much on muscle car territory and muscle car owners need to step it up if they’re going to remain at the top of the drag strip food chain.
