You know Hurst Performance, right? They’re the Warminster, PA company founded by George Hurst that got Oldsmobile to subvert the process and install 455s in 4-4-2s. They’re also the company that developed the Jaws of Life, not to mention the one that got Pontiac and all the others to include Hurst shifters as OEM.
But if you’re a Hurst admirer who truly wants something different, you need to buy this car.

It is purported that Hurst Performance purchased this 1966 Pontiac Bonneville wagon for promotional purposes. Painted extra-cost Tiger Gold with a black vinyl top, the current owner says the Pontiac Historical Services invoice shows it to be equipped with over 32 options (including the nifty and decadent power vent windows) plus – of course – Hurst wheels and Dual-Gate shifter. The seller claims that it’s a prototype shifter, although I’ve found an ad from two years earlier advertising the aftermarket item.
With more Internet research, one can discover that the car was found without the big HURST logo on the door. On a Pontiac forum, one person claimed, “It was pretty rotted…top of 1/4s, spare tire well, etc.” Same person claimed Linda Vaughn was queried about this wagon and she felt that it may have been a company car rather than a promotional car.
Whatever the case may be, it’s an awesome wagon that has been freshened up for better presentation while preserving its originality. And if you’re a collector of Hurst memorabilia, can you imagine a better way to display your collection at shows?
Returned to its original glory, this Hurst wagon is unlike any tow vehicle you've ever seen before.
Restored back to its original glory, this is really a great piece of drag racing history.
