Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 Gets Blown With Whipple Superchargers

Dig this 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 that got a big power upgrade over at National Speed out of Richmond, Virginia. The customer brought in his Jeep SUV that had already been treated to a power boost courtesy of Whipple Superchargers. It was running the company’s 2.9L W175FF twin-screw supercharger, their 3.25″ upper pulley, an MSD voltage booster, and Kooks headers.

According to Whipple, “Our new 2.9L W175FF features Whipple’s massive oversized air-to-water intercooler for unmatched cooling capacity, a unique front feed that reaches 99% volumetric efficiency and industry-leading power potential. The system also includes high-flow fuel injectors, an aluminum intake manifold, and a Whipple Power Flash Programmer from SCT for the factory ECU recalibration. ”

Although the GC owner was thrilled with the performance of the current setup, more is more and he wanted to take the build to the next level. He wanted a thundering idle and tweak the boost to make more, reliable horsepower. The guys at National lowered the boost, added a hi-po cam, Chromoly pushrods, OEM Hellcat lifters, and oil pump, and upgraded the spark plugs and thermostat.

With the mechanical work wrapped up, they strapped the brute down to the rollers to perform a custom calibration via HP Tuners. With 93 octane gas in the tank, they increased the 6.4L Hemi’s output to 639.52hp & 533.48 lb-ft torque. Perfectly safe power for the stock bottom end and they achieved the ground-pounding idle the customer was after.

The foundation of this mega-transfusion is the Whipple Supercharger sitting on top of the mill. Based in Fresno, California, Whipple is the leader in forced induction. With extensive knowledge, and years of experience, Whipple developed an entirely new supercharger lineup that featured all of the latest technology in rotor profile, housing, rotor coating, and bearing design to revolutionize the twin-screw supercharger market. Whipple’s innovative thinking, hard work, attention to detail, and outstanding product performance have led to a better, American-made product for the performance industry. Go here for more info.
