We just love finding wild and crazy home-brewed car project builds. Recently we came across and insane garage build over on bangshift.com. The build will consist of an AMC AMX body mated to a modern day GTO coupe. Now I know what your thinking, “This will never work.” Well guys, it does and with only a few mods with narrowing the GTO frame, the body will bolt right up.
The AMX produced by American Motors Corporation was only produced for a short time 1968 through 1970 and was considered to be a key member of the American muscle car alumni. The AMX was a two-seater and was considered unique because of its short wheel base which was even shorter than that year’s Corvette. The engine that came along with the car was a 390 cubic inch V8 that produced 315 horsepower.
This project started with a bare bones late model Pontiac GTO chassis. With only a few modifications to the existing chassis, the middle of the frame was cut in half and 13 inches of material where taken out to shorten the wheel base allowing the AMX shell to fit. After all the cutting, the shell was ready to put in place like it was meant to be there. The project car will feature the powerful 6.0L GTO engine that will defiantly put some grunt being it. Unlike the original AMX this one will be rocking the stock GTO interior and interment panel.
After some more tweaking and some extra welding to make sure the frame stays together the project is getting closer to completion. The next step will be getting this beast into the paint shop for a one of a kind paint job.
So in the end would you consider this a Pontiac or an AMC? We’ll let you decide. Either way this car will sure catch some attention.
