Melling Introduces Seven New Camshafts For The LS Engine

If you’re like us, nothing brings a smile to your face faster than firing up a vehicle with a healthy camshaft installed. Sure, the neighbors probably hate you, but it doesn’t matter because you’ll never hear their negativity over that angry exhaust note. And, Melling just made finding the perfect cam a little easier by introducing seven new camshafts to the Gen III and IV LS engine lineup. 

Melling Class II Camshafts

Melling’s Class II camshafts are perfect if you’re trying to pick up a little power. These LS cams offer good idle quality, low rpm torque, and improved mid-range performance. You can also keep the supporting modifications at a minimum as they will work with stock or a slightly modified engine and a manual or auto transmission. 

Class II (PN 22205) 215º-230º Features:

  • RPM Range 2,200-5,400
  • Exhaust Duration at .050-inch Lift: 230-degrees 
  • Exhaust Valve Lift: 0.585-inch
  • Exhaust Valve Lift: 14.85mm
  • Intake Duration at .050-inch Lift: 228-degrees
  • Intake Valve Lift: 0.585-inch
  • Intake Valve Lift: 14.85mm 
  • Lobe Separation: 112-degrees

Melling Class III Camshafts

If your looking for a street/strip camshaft Mellings Class III is an excellent choice. These camshafts for the LS offer a rough idle quality with good mid to high rpm torque and can be used with a manual or automatic transmission with a high stall torque convertor.

Class III Camshaft (PN 22307) 220°-245° Features:

  • RPM Range: Idle-5,000
  • Exhaust Duration at .050-inch Lift: 227-degrees 
  • Exhaust Valve Lift: 0.524-inch
  • Exhaust Valve Lift: 13.30mm
  • Intake Duration at .050-inch Lift: 218-degrees
  • Intake Valve Lift: 0.523-inch
  • Intake Valve Lift: 13.28mm 
  • Lobe Separation: 112-degrees

Class III Camshaft (PN 22308) 230°-245° Features:

  • RPM Range: 2,200-5,400
  • Cam Type: Hydraulic Roller
  • Exhaust Duration at .050-inch Lift: 242-degrees 
  • Exhaust Valve Lift: 0.595-inch
  • Exhaust Valve Lift: 15.11mm
  • Intake Duration at .050-inch Lift: 238-degrees
  • Intake Valve Lift: 0.595-inch
  • Intake Valve Lift: 15.11mm 
  • Lobe Separation: 112-degrees

The melling performance camshaft looks much better than the high-mileage factory part that we removed when rebuilding a junkyard 5.3-liter.

Melling Class IV & V Camshafts

If you’re looking for even more than what Mellings Class III camshafts have to offer, then the Class IV and V are the next steps in performance. These camshafts off a rough idle, mid to high rpm torque, horsepower, and are designed for severe racing applications. Of course, if running an automatic transmission, a high stall converter is a must. Unlike the Class III camshaft, these will not produce enough vacuum for power accessories.

  • RPM Range: 2,000-6,000
  • Exhaust Duration at .050-inch Lift: 236-degrees 
  • Exhaust Valve Lift: 0.525-inch
  • Exhaust Valve Lift: 13.33mm
  • Intake Duration at .050-inch Lift: 225-degrees
  • Intake Valve Lift: 0.525-inch
  • Intake Valve Lift: 13.33mm 
  • Lobe Separation: 110-degrees

Class IV Camshaft (PN 22412) 245º-Up Features:

  • RPM Range: 2,000-6,500
  • Exhaust Duration at .050-inch Lift: 246-degrees 
  • Exhaust Valve Lift: 0.612-inch
  • Exhaust Valve Lift: 15.54mm
  • Intake Duration at .050-inch Lift: 236-degrees
  • Intake Valve Lift: 0.612-inch
  • Intake Valve Lift: 15.54mm 
  • Lobe Separation: 110-degrees

Class IV Camshaft (PN 22412) 245º-Up Features:

  • RPM Range: 2,000-6,500
  • Exhaust Duration at .050-inch Lift: 246-degrees 
  • Exhaust Valve Lift: 0.612-inch
  • Exhaust Valve Lift: 15.54mm
  • Intake Duration at .050-inch Lift: 236-degrees
  • Intake Valve Lift: 0.612-inch
  • Intake Valve Lift: 15.54mm 
  • Lobe Separation: 110-degrees

Class IV Camshaft (PN 22413) 245º-Up Features:

  • RPM Range: 2,000-6,000
  • Exhaust Duration at .050-inch Lift: 240-degrees 
  • Exhaust Valve Lift: 0.551-inch
  • Exhaust Valve Lift: 13.99mm
  • Intake Duration at .050-inch Lift: 229-degrees
  • Intake Valve Lift: 0.551-inch
  • Intake Valve Lift: 13.99mm 
  • Lobe Separation: 108-degrees

Class V Camshaft (PN 22413) 245º-Up Features:

  • RPM Range: 2,000-6,000
  • Exhaust Duration at .050-inch Lift: 227-degrees 
  • Exhaust Valve Lift: 0.595-inch
  • Exhaust Valve Lift: 15.11mm
  • Intake Duration at .050-inch Lift: 234-degrees
  • Intake Valve Lift: 0.595-inch
  • Intake Valve Lift: 15.11mm 
  • Lobe Separation: 107-degrees
