Mid-Engine LS-Swapped Chevy Luv Set To Debut At LS Fest

Since the introduction of LS-swaps, we have seen all kinds of builds over the years. From high-end supercars, hotrods, classics, and just about everything in between. And while it’s becoming more challenging to stand out in the sea of swapped vehicles at shows like LS Fest, there are still some ideas that people have yet to attempt. Let’s take Cole Renyold’s Chevy Luv, for instance. We’ve seen several Luv’s powered with an LS drivetrain. In fact, we’re currently working on one ourselves. However, Reynold’s truck will be completely unique and one of a kind, especially when you consider it was never supposed to get an LS powerplant.

Initially, Reynolds was planning on powering his Luv with a Chevrolet Performance LTG 2.0-liter turbocharged crate engine. However, there were two problems with this plan. First off, the LTG never gained the support of the aftermarket, and then Chevrolet killed the program. The second problem was that Reynolds, being well north of the six-foot mark, didn’t fit in the truck. Well, he could manage to cram himself in the seat. However, it wasn’t comfortable or safe, considering this Luv is specifically built for time attack racing, so the plans changed.

Reynolds works for DuSold Designs in Ft. Worth, Texas. Mike DuSold, the owner of DuSold Designs, is responsible for building one of the baddest Camaro’s on the planet that just competed in the Pikes Peak race. So when it came time to change directions, the fate of Reynold’s Luv was in excellent hands.

After some discussion with DuSold, the new plan was to scrap the Camaro independent rear subframe and move an LS to the truck’s bed, which will be connected to a Porsche transaxle. But there was still the other problem, the lack of interior room. Since the guys decided to move the engine and drivetrain to the bed, and since there was no need for a transmission tunnel, it allowed room to move the driver’s seat to the truck’s center.

As of right now, the guys are thrashing on the truck and plan to unveil it at Holley’s LS Fest East in less than five weeks. And while you can bet on finding an LS-swapped Luv on the show’s property next month. We can almost guarantee you won’t find another one there that will be rear engine and center drive.

We certainly can’t wait to see this truck in person. Stay tuned to LSX Magazine for more updates on this killer build as Renyolds, and the DuSold team continues working.
