Anyone that has been paying any attention at all to the news knows that Texas has been going through a pretty rough storm system the past week. The rain has gotten so bad that flooding on major highways has shut down sections throughout the middle of the state. Flooding on loop 12 at Interstate 30 is so bad that the highway will be closed for a week because of drainage problems. The water is three feet high making it impassable for most vehicles.

Grand Prairie, which has seen its fair share of unfair weather this week, has felt the slippery nature of wet pavement. Most drivers on the central Texas roads are aware and take the conditions into consideration before entering into what the five-o call a “speed contest.” Take note that we said “MOST” people.

In this particular morning’s commuter traffic from the suburbs of Grand Prairie, a late model GTO and Mustang decide to test their tires’ coefficient of friction on rain-soaked asphalt. The Mustang moves into the center lane with the Pontiac moving quickly along the outside lane. When both cars hit a depressed part of the highway where some moisture has collected, they accelerate for position.

This will not end well.

The driver of the Mustang finds out where his available traction ends when the black ‘Stang breaks the rearend loose and fishtails across a lane of traffic into a light pole in the median. As the GTO continues to speed away, the drivers following behind the Mustang pull to the side of the roadway to make sure that everyone was ok. Thankfully, the people in the black coupe were fine, and the event was saved on dashcam as a reminder to the rest of us to be careful out there.
