Ford Racing Performance Parts has added the new 2011 5.0 Liter TiVCT Mustang engine to its modular crate engine family. Rated at 412 horsepower and 390 ft./lbs. of torque, the “ready to install” engine should be very popular with street rod builders, Mustang retro-mod projects and Fox-body enthusiasts. According to the Ford Racing parts site, the 5.0L crate engine fits the common 4.6-liter modular bell housing, so manual transmission choices abound. The engine is priced at $6,999.00, a great value considering the amount of technology you get and the potential for more power.

The engine comes equipped with a manual transmission flywheel so builders looking to go the automatic route may have to get creative with a flexplate and automatic transmission. For wiring and engine control, Ford Racing is developing an engine control kit similar to the ones offered in the past for the 3-valve and 4-valve modular crate engines. The engine is shipped plain or can be updated with Ford Racing’s 5.0 Liter engine cover kit taken directly from the 2011 Mustang GT parts bin.

This project is the first of many Old School/New School builds involving the new Mustang engine.
