Aerodynamic stability is important in a performance car, and the cars of the late ’80’s were leaps and bounds better than those of previous generations. The third-gen Firebird’s factory spoilers are now twenty-five-plus years old, and weren’t constructed that great on day one. Original Equipment Reproductions to the rescue!
Official Release:
The third generation Firebird was a giant leap forward in aerodynamics compared to previous models. This was prominently reflected in the styling, especially in the Aerowing “wrap-around” spoilers on Trans Am and GTA models. Unfortunately, the Aerowing spoiler had problems. The most serious problem was that the foam construction absorbed moisture over time, causing the metal core to corrode, destroying the spoiler from the inside out.
“Fiberglass replacements were available, but getting a correct fit sometimes required extensive modification. Used originals were not a viable option due to the heavy ‘rust-sponge’ nature of their construction,” said Ray Yager, OER Marketing Director. “We knew we could do better. These newly-tooled Aerowing spoilers offer enthusiasts an original appearance with better-than-original quality.”
These OER Authorized Aerowing-style rear spoilers are manufactured in durable fiberglass and designed to factory specifications to give a correct appearance and fit that will last. Designed as bolt-on replacements for vehicles originally equipped with the D81 spoiler option, each spoiler includes mounting hardware for simple installation on non-D81 vehicles. The gel coat finish is ready to be blocked, primed, and sanded in preparation for painting. Third brake lamp not included.
