The Flowmaster NMCA WEST series announced on Friday that its final event of the four-race inaugural season, the Nitto Tire NMCA WEST World Street Finals, has been moved the Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, Calif. to the Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield the weekend of October 26-28, 2012.
The Fontana strip, originally scheduled to open and conclude the NMCA WEST season with two events, has been temporarily shut down during the 2012 season and remains embroiled in battles with the local government and neighboring communities. Last month, track officials announced that a preliminary agreement had been reached with those previously opposed to the continued operation of the strip, pending the construction of a sound barrier around the facility and other factors not outlined in the press release.
“While it’s never optimal to have a venue and date change, NMCA WEST is happy the Bowser Family and Famoso Raceway were willing to roll out the red carpet to host our World Street Finals the weekend of October 26-28,” said Steve Wolcott, CEO of NMCA WEST. “Our first year has been an overwhelming success and its been awesome to meet so many new racers who put on an incredible show for our fans in pursuit of world championships. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Famoso Raceway and hosting one or more events at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana next season.”
The change of venues also brings with it a change of date, as the Fontana event was scheduled to take place a week earlier on October 19-21.
The NMCA WEST World Street Finals will, as always, feature heads-up, index, and bracket racing action on the strip, along with a huge car show, an autocross and speed-stop challenge, True Street, a burnout contest, and more.
