PRI 2011: ARP Fastens The 5.0L Coyote With New Lineup

We had customers calling and begging us to start producing these parts for the Coyote.

Without question, the SEMA and PRI Shows – the nations to biggest outlets for the unveiling and showcasing of high performance aftermarket – were dominated by the new 5.0L Coyote and the 2011 Ford Mustang for which they called home. And while Coyote Mania has slowed some in the past year, that doesn’t mean new components for the engine that many have already ranked superior to the original 5.0 aren’t still under development and a regular part of new product announcements.

When it comes to bolts, studs, fasteners, and related components, ARP Fasteners is recognized as the industry leader – whether it’s a Top Fuel Dragster or a Sport Compact; a carburetor bolt or a wheel stud. Here in Orlando, ARP shared with us a first look at the latest addition to their product lineup with the release of new head studs, main studs, and balancer bolts for the already legendary 5.0L Coyote.

“We had customers calling and begging us to start producing these parts for the Coyote,” said ARP’s Chris Raschke.

The mains and head studs are part of the ARP 2000 line of products, which is a heavily alloyed martensitic quench and temper steel. The material has excellent stability at high temperatures and notch toughness in the higher strength ranges. ARP 2000 has a strength of between 200,000 and 220,000 psi.

The balancer bolts, meanwhile use ARP’s 8740 chrome moly for it’s tough construction, which features a hardended .4% carbon, .45% nickel, .55% chromium, and is generally considered to be tougher then 4130, for which many aftermarket parts in the industry are made.

Because these parts are virtually brand new, only the balancer bolt is on display at the PRI Show, but to expect to hear much more of these new studs, mains, and balancer bolts as speed shops building new short blocks get their grubby paws on them.
