PRI 2011: Scorpion Racing Products – Made in the USA

Anyone who’s been to the PRI show in recent years has probably seen Scorpion Racing Products‘ pair of friendly industrial robots, busy all day long showing off the company’s products and offering attendees a souvenir keychain or bottle of icewater. But for the other 51 weeks of the year, these robots are hard at work in Scorpion’s new Ocala, Florida facility building valvetrain components on one of the most highly automated production lines in the aftermarket.

That automation allows Scorpion to build top quality components here in the US at a cost that is competitive with companies sourcing their hardware from offshore suppliers, as well as keeping the tap flowing with new applications like the ones we saw here this year at PRI. First up are their new L92 rocker arms, available in 1.7 and 1.8 ratios. These arms fit factory heads with no machining required, are compatible with factory-spec pushrods, guide plates, and rocker studs, and fit under stock-height valve covers with no spacers required.

Scorpion's Endurance series solid roller lifters are 100% CNC machined from 8620 steel, and feature heat treated tool steel nitrided axles and precision roller bearings for durability. The axles are pressure-oiled as well.

Scorpion's Endurance series racing pushrods feature a .120-inch wall thickness (compared to a typical .080), 4135 seamless chromoly tubing, and 240 degree ball tips made from case hardend and cryo-treated 8620 bar stock.

Made from 8620 billet, this billet fuel pump pushrod from Scorpion is 10% lighter than a typical pushrod while still being exceptionally strong.

Scorpion does more than just valvetrain hardware - they had their new LS1 fuel rail kit on display as well, and their performance throttle body has some very intelligent design features as well. Look closely; the fail-safe design can't stick open due to the offset pivot axis, and flows up to 2,000 CFM.

While robots will inevitably rise up against us, overthrow and enslave us to toil in their chromium mines and vacuum their houses, in the meantime they turn out some darn good speed parts, and Scorpion Racing Products is making the most of the time we have left.
