PRI 2012: LS Series Rotating Assemblies From Manley Performance

GM’s LS platform of high performance engines has been gaining some serious aftermarket attention of late, and particularly at this year’s PRI Show, with a number of new product releases aimed at the popular engine found in the Camaro, Corvette, and other GM vehicles. One manufacturer going full-bore (no pun intended) with the LS engine is Manley Performance Products, who showcased some new parts in their catalog that bring to the table complete rotating assembly packages for LS motors.

These rotating assembles include a vast array of options, beginning with pistons in several different measurements. These Platinum Series pistons come in lightweight versions for 3.622″, 4.000″, and 4.100″ stroke varieties in flat top and dish sizes ranging from 4cc up to 31cc. Bore sizes range from 3.905″ to 4.130″, depending on the piston. The pistons feature a 2618 alloy construction with an offset wrist pin design, moly coated skirts, and exacting ring groove squareness to the cylinder wall that provides for the maximum of horsepower.

Manley also offers LS rods in I-beam, H-beam, Pro Series I-beam, and H-Lite flavors from forged 4340 material. The higher end Pro Series piece combines the appropriate weight and rugged strength for high horsepower applications. Each of the rods is shot peened and magnafluxed after machining.

On the crankshaft end of things, Manley has offerings of 4.000″ and 4.100″ strokes in both a standard and lightweight version. Made from a 4340 forging, the Pro Series cranks come from a multi-step heat treat process for added strength, with large, micro-polished rod journals, gun-drilled mains and lightened journals to reduce weight, fully profiles counterweights, and the option of a 24 or 58 tooth reluctor wheel.
