The National Muscle Car Association will continue its popular Dodge // MOPAR HEMI Shootout program in 2020 with the support of sponsors Vortech Superchargers and Arrington Performance. Boasting more than 100 Gen III HEMI-powered vehicles at many of its races — most of them in the Dodge // MOPAR HEMI Shootout — the program is the quickest-growing segment in the NMCA. Open to 2005-and later Gen III HEMI-powered Challenger, Demon, Hellcat, Charger, 300, and Jeep vehicles, the program provides complimentary car and driver entry to the first 75 registrants at each of the NMCA’s six events. Competitors with Gen III HEMI-powered swap vehicles, along with Dodge Vipers, are also permitted to enter. There is no maximum number of entries.

Dodge // MOPAR HEMI Shootout competitors are afforded time trial runs on Friday and Saturday at each race and then embark on a three-run session, similar to the NMCA’s popular and long-running True Street competition. The average elapsed time off the three official runs is calculated to determine the final rankings, with awards presented for Overall Winner, Overall Runner-Up, and the quickest average time in the 9-, 10- 11-, 12-, 13-, 14-, and 15-second zones.

Added a season ago and continuing into 2020, the Arrington Performance HEMI Quick 8 Presented by Red Line Oil pits the eight quickest finishers in the Dodge // MOPAR HEMI Shootout into a heads-up competition during Sunday eliminations and awards $800 and an NMCA winner’s trophy to the champion.

“The quickest growing segment in the high-performance aftermarket is the Dodge // MOPAR market and we’ve seen over 100 late-model HEMI cars at some of our events last year. So to continue running the Arrington Performance HEMI Quick 8 Presented by Red Line Oil and see who has the quickest car at the event is fun for the competitors and fans,” said Rollie Miller, General Manager and National Event Director of the NMCA Muscle Car Nationals.

The 2020 NMCA season — and the first opportunity for late-model HEMI racers to get their fix — begins at Bradenton, Florida on March 5-8.
