When Sammy Martin stepped off his plane at the airport in Biloxi, Mississippi he didn’t know he was about to fall in love. But, just across the tarmac sat a brand new 70/SS built for Brad Pfitzner by Trans Am Worldwide that was being delivered that day. When Martin, his wife Patricia, and his family saw the new “Chevelle” glistening in the sun, they knew they needed one.
While Martin was ready to purchase one on the spot, that’s not exactly how Trans Am Worldwide works. The company that made its name building NEW Pontiac Trans Ams based on the Gen 5/6 Camaro, recently transitioned into building the 70/SS, to get the hearts beating in the chests of Chevelle lovers around the world. The 70/SS is a completely custom creation, with a carbon fiber body. To have one built is a bespoke experience, and the Martin’s decided to make the most of it.
Building The Perfect Beast
The wheels were set in motion and the Trans Am Worldwide crew started the build. The fun part for the Martin’s was getting to visit the shop and work through the build sheet to make this 70/SS their own. For power, Sammy wanted lots of it, so he selected a supercharged package making 800 hp. The combination included using their 396 cam in the engine package to get that old-school sound, and they topped it off with a Magnuson 2650 supercharger. While the 70/SS has the perfect muscle car rumble, it also comes equipped with an exhaust cutout for those times when you need to be a little more subtle in your 800-horsepower hot rod.
Choosing the Look of the 70/SS
The Martins wanted an original Chevelle look so they selected the original Chevelle color Fathom Blue for the body. This is offset with pearl white rally stripes. The selection process is very detailed. When the Martins picked a white leather interior, it was up to their daughter, Stephanie to find the right blue stitching detail for the interior. The end result, along with rally striped belts and embroidered headrests, make the Martin’s 70/SS a true show stopper.
A Peak Behind The Curtain
One of the great things about this video is the look behind the scenes at the Trans Am Worldwide operation. Sammy Martin even points it out on his first visit. He mentions that he thought it was a much smaller operation of just a few guys building cars. While you can tell everyone who works there loves what they do, the process is very in-depth. They are working to achieve perfection with the builds, which by the way, come with a pretty hefty price tag. It is interesting to see how this process works and walk through it with the customer. If you can’t get your hands on an original model Chevelle, or maybe you want a completely modern muscle car with the stylings of the classics, the 70/SS may be the perfect solution. Watch this video and dream about what could be.
