RIP Mr. Hoonigan: Ken Block Passes Away At 55 In Snowmobile Accident

World-renowned stunt and rally driver Ken Block passed away in Utah on Monday when the snowmobile he was riding up a steep slope overturned and killed him, authorities said.

Block was widely heralded for his popular “Gymkhana” video series, which featured bleeding-edge stunt driving routines in souped-up cars, on the streets of major cities in the United States and abroad.

Over the years, he has also competed in many action sports and motorsports events, including rally racing, skateboarding, snowboarding, and motocross.

The 55-year-old entrepreneur made some serious bank as one of the founders of DC Shoes, which he promoted via his successful rally racing career. After selling DC Shoes in 2004, Block went on to create the Hoonigan lifestyle and apparel brand.

“It’s with our deepest regrets that we can confirm that Ken Block passed away in a snowmobile accident today,” Block’s family made in a statement on its website. “Ken was a visionary, a pioneer, and an icon. And most importantly, a father and husband. He will be incredibly missed.”

Hoonigan posted the following statement to the brand Instagram account: “It’s with our deepest regrets that we can confirm that Ken Block passed away in a snowmobile accident today. Ken was a visionary, a pioneer and an icon. And most importantly, a father and husband. He will be incredibly missed. Please respect the family’s privacy at this time while they grieve. “ His most recent video on his YouTube channel is the final part in a series where Block builds a drift car with his 16-year-old daughter, Lia.

Block leaves behind his wife, Lucy, and three daughters, including 16-year-old Lia, who was following in her father’s footsteps as a performance car builder and driver.

From all of us at Power Automedia, we give our most sincere condolences to Block’s family, fans, and friends. The good news is heaven is full of endless, untouched snowy scapes just waiting to be carved up in powdery patterns. We know Ken is up there doing just that. Rest in peace Mr. Hoonigan.
